To be eligible for the position, applicants must be a resident inside Watford City’s corporate City limits. Applicants should have an interest in land use planning and development activities within the City of Watford City.

The Watford City Planning and Zoning Commission Members are appointed by the Mayor and hold office for a term of 5-years. Members will receive a small quarterly stipend depending on attendance.

The duties of the Watford City Planning and Zoning Commission are to make recommendations to the City Council on applications involving land use and planning for the future growth of the City, as well as taking regard to the enforcement of zoning, subdivision, and other land use ordinances and regulations. Members of the Commission will receive a packet prior to each Commission meeting and are expected to review the materials provided, visit, or familiarize the subject sites, and attend the meeting prepared to make informed decisions.

Applicants must be able to commit to attending a regularly scheduled meeting held once per month. On rare occasions, additional Special Meetings may be scheduled with advance notice. The Watford City Planning and Zoning Commission regularly meets on the last Monday of each month at 6:00 PM. in the Heritage Room at Watford City City Hall.   The meetings can sometimes range >1 to 2 hours in duration but can expect to vary depending on the agenda.

• Applicant must be a full-time resident of the City of Watford City and live within corporate City limits.

• Applicant must be able to commit to attending commission meetings typically held one evening per month.
